In the early 2000's I had thoughts of writing a book. Back then, I felt it was much harder to accomplish than I do now. So, I never really pursued it but it always was kind of in the back of my mind.
I don't recall the exact year, but I think it was around 2009 when the thought of writing a book crossed my mind once again. I would write here and there but procrastination got the better of me and I stopped writing.
However, over the next 10 years or so, I would look at the chapters I wrote and add in a paragraph or two every now and then. Fast forward to 2021 and my best friend wrote a book. I figured I would give it another try. In that same year, I accomplished the feat.
The World According to the Average Guy was published.
Is it great? In my opinion, not at all but it was something I wanted to accomplish and I did it. Soon after, I came up with some t-shirts and hat designs. I would wear them around just for fun. Once again, creating merch was something I wanted to accomplish and I did!
One day as I was walking down the street someone stopped me and asked about the t-shirt I was wearing. "What does the AG stand for?" I replied, "Average Guy." He laughed and said, "I need something that reads, " I'm a really average guy", or something to that effect.
I continued wearing my Average Guy t-shirts and hats and around 2024 my best friend said something like, "You should expand AG for women but no girl wants to be called average because we are all awesome.
Awesome Girl was born!
I had some designs made and went for the merch thing again, but life happens. I got busy doing nothing as usual. Call it lazy if you like. I have a habit of starting things but then I never really follow through.
For some unknown reason, 2025 sparked some motivation in me and here I am again. I had new designs made and have followed through with something else...this website. I like to think my best friend had a lot to do with it.
Nothing gets in my best friend's way because she really is an awesome girl. That's the basic gist as to why you're reading my AG story now.
If I can accomplish goals occasionally, I believe you can too! Whether it's walking an extra step, another jumping jack, learning to paint, training for a 5K, or whatever the case may be, go out there and be awesome!
I'm finding that this average guy can be a little awesome himself. Sometimes. And that's okay too.
